That was actually a quick fix for when you collide with the ground, it sets health to -1000, so when the "playerDead" method is called to check if the player is alive or dead it sees that health is less than 0. I've still a lot of things to fix on it, including the introduction of a boss at the end. It was a very rushed college project :P
