Gamer Defense

Gamer Defense is a tower defense game featuring characters from popular video game franchises and includes retro minigames. It was created by a group of five students in a game design class.

As in most tower defense games, you must select and place towers to protect the base from enemies. These towers will shoot, slash and bomb enemies as the enemies follow a predetermined path to the base. Kill all the enemies in a level to progress to the next level. If you fail to defend your base and run out of lives, the game is over.

Each tower has different ways in which it affects enemies. Mario shoots fireballs, Link swings his sword, Donkey Kong throws exploding barrels with area of effect damage, Pac-Man runs down a lane eating all the enemies, and Fox leads his team on a bombing run to decimate all enemies on the screen. Also, the Pikmin tower can be placed in a lane to block and stop enemies until its health runs out.

For each enemy killed, you are rewarded money. This money can be used to buy more towers; it is also your score. It is possible to spend all your money on towers, but that leaves you no final score. The key is to spend as little as possible to kill all the enemies and achieve the highest score. You also receive money for each life you didn’t lose during the level.

Occasionally, an enemy will drop a power-up when it is killed. Clicking on the power-up will transform the tower defense into a retro game like Pong, Snake, or Space Invaders. Each minigame gives an arcade-style way to kill onscreen enemies.

I beat it, but I somehow got -16 lives on the last level because the boss got through? Either way, it's really fun and well thought out. Some of the retro games were underpowered, as it was extremely easy to die, and I never figured out the line one. Good game.

This is a pretty awesome scenario. I really like the idea a lot, it is very creative. Maybe you would want to add an interval of time to set up prior to the wave starting to make it easier for the higher levels. Great scenario

Great game! But please give the player some time to prepare before the level starts.

I'm going to echo other people here. Give some time to set up the towers before the foes come around. I like the crossover here.
