Declaring Long problem

Thanks Davemac, As soon as I posted that I realized my mistake! Silly error!! My brain said "as you're dealing with fractions of a second, you need to say "a = 0.6" as opposed to "a = 600". All good now though, thanks for your help. Paul.

Well, I wrote up everything and I'm pretty sure it'll work but the reference isn't working for some reason. I keep getting the error, "non-static method getY() cannot be referenced from a static context." I was just guessing at the reference for the actor, I know how to reference methods but not an actor or object.

As per what nccb said above - yes it'd be possible in theory, but unsupported and wouldn't work with future versions.

What's wrong with currentTimeMillis()? That would have been my suggestion on how to do it. When you want to start timing, set a field long startTime to be the current time: <Code Omitted> Then in your act method: <Code Omitted> Setting the startTime back to zero (and adding a check against zero to the if-condition) makes sure it will only trigger once when the time's up.

It might make more sense using a 'switch' statement instead of all the 'if's, as follows: <Code Omitted>The '%' symbol means to get the remainder of what comes before it, divided by what comes after it. It is like saying i++; if (i == 6) { i = 0; }

Yes, this bug was recently reported and is recorded in our bug database: http://bugs.bluej.org/trac/greenfoot/ticket/347 Of course we will fix it with the next release of Greenfoot.

Thank you davmac, that explains it perfectly! My first actor's, a1, act() is lengthy, including multiple image swaps and directional changes with small wait times. I am new to programming and have decided to learn with Greenfoot. You hear all these ads about Windows machines being able to truly multi-tast so I wasn't sure if both acts were suppose to run simultaneously or if they ran in turn like you've described. Short answer: You can't (as of the current greenfoot version) - you may want to look into getting a different IDE.

Ok, I have managed to reproduce the problem on Windows (not on linux though - it seems to work fine for me on linux). I'll look into it further; maybe it's a Greenfoot bug. In the meantime you can probably avoid it by not using inner types.

so now i have convertet it to a !!!GIF!!!! and it work fine... i use http://www.greenfoot.org/scenarios/260 to use the gif... now there is a loop. so i need to remove tha actor after it hast finished. to do that is shuld use a timer or something. the gif is 21 seconds ... how i make a timer????
