Hello davmac. I updated the JDK7 and got the error you just said: Greenfoot failed to launch. For help go to http://greenfoot.org/support/index.html I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS but runing greenfoot by the Pure Java installation (version 2.2.1). After seeing this post I downloaded greenfoot version 2.3.0 for Debian/Ubuntu, intalled it, but still got the same error. So then I tried to fix both installations (Debian and Pure Java) changing the JAVAPATH line as described above and the result was: * Debian Greenfoot didn't work (even on version 2.3.0). * Pure Java Greenfoot worked out (on version 2.2.1). Didn't try 2.3.0 generic. It's weird because I already tryed Debian installation (before the JDK update) and never could make it work. So I'm not sure if it's my system or the greenfoot installer itself (probably my system). Anyway thanks for the help on solving this problem. XD

If you get the same error after upgrading to the new version, I'd guess that the problem is not the same problem. Please see the support page if you want further help.

I'm not sure what part of what I was saying you think is incorrect. If the version 2.3.0 .deb package doesn't work for you, it's a different problem that is causing it, not the issue that this thread is about.

Version 2.3.0 of Greenfoot is now available for Mac OS X (see the download page), both with a bundled JDK 7 and without (which will use the system JDK 6). It's recommended that you use the package without the bundled JDK unless you have special requirements, since the JDK has several known bugs at this time. The "Standalone" bundle hasn't yet been updated, this should be available in the next few days.
