Ocean Wardens is an ocean-themed defense strategy game developed in Java using the Greenfoot platform. The game centers on protecting coral reefs from an onslaught of marine debris. Inspired by Plants vs. Zombies, it features modifications to the theme, gameplay mechanics, defensive characters, and the roles of the various in-game actors.
The game features an underwater setting populated by defensive elements, such as seashells, archerfish, squid, sea urchins, and jellyfish, and various types of marine waste acting as enemies, including plastic bags, rusty cans, and discarded tires. Players place these defensive units along game lanes to halt the debris before it can damage the coral reefs. Each organism possesses unique roles and abilities, requiring players to strategize their placement effectively.
Ocean Wardens was developed not only to provide an entertaining gaming experience but also to serve as a practical application of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts. Principles such as classes, objects, encapsulation, inheritance, abstraction, and polymorphism are implemented through a custom-designed hierarchy of *World* and *Actor* classes, ensuring that each object is structured and functions according to its specific role. Additionally, the underwater theme serves to remind players of the importance of protecting the ocean from pollution.
Enjoy the game!
