Ok, I got to level 14. Then it got a bit crazy.
The key to success is mathematics. Speed increases are always worthwhile due to the way the firing delay is calculated (but should be balanced with adding a few archers and maybe upgrading the damage once or twice). Once you've maxed out your firing speed, it's choosing between buying a new archer and upgrading the damage which is the trick. It's a question of value: The value of an archer is (current damage / archer price). The value of a damage upgrade is (5 * number of archers / upgrade price). Whichever has the best value is the one you should buy. (The 5 in the latter calculation is because a damage upgrade increases damage by 5).
Still no death star in sight...
I really like the idea and gameplay behind this. I think the look and interface though is letting it down. It could be a really nice proper web game if had a better look.

The new look is great! I'd personally love it if sound was added as well. And perhaps a bit of animation (if the walkers actually walked, for instance, rather than just moving along). But it's already quite impressive!
It got a lot more difficult now. Especially in the beginning it depends a lot on how lucky you are with the enemies approach.
To hassan: you use the mouse to buy upgrades, but I guess you now that since you got to level 2. The trick is to figure out which upgrades to buy at which time. Davmac wrote a bit about that in his post.
