What do you mean?
You are reading data into a the
line
variable and then replacing it with the (probably
null
) value of an element of
rides
. I would think that you would set the element of
rides
to that which was read and put in the
line
variable. Another issue I just noticed about that part of the code is that you are using a
for
loop inside a
while
loop. As such you are iterating over the entire
rides
array with each line of data read in, which certainly cannot be right. Initialize an int counter before

And how do I do that?
That is asking a bit much -- don't you think? Try something first. Then, if you run into problems, you can show what you tried and ask for help in fixing you code. I doubt you would be able to get anyone to write the code for you (especially since one would need to know everything about your scenario and what would be important to save).

You have yet to set the new
MyWorld

setWorld
method of the
Greenfoot
class. You may want to consider using a local variable inside the

block instead of a field for the new world.
World
objects, mainly due to the size of their images, take up a lot of memory and with multiple icons creating and retaining a world (the
Turning off Greenfoot auto-compile: please...
By LaurentB, with no replies.
Hi, I know that the question was already asked several times in this fourm: 'how to turn off auto-compile' And I know the usual answer: it's not possible and auto-compile is not a problem because you still can edit code when compiling. But unfortunately, that's not the case... Yesterday, in my CS lesson, I was typing 'live' code showing an exercice solution to my students. And it was a nightmare. After typing a few characters the editor paused, saved the code and compiled it. I was blocked during about 5-10 seconds each time. Apparently there are situation where auto-compile makes real trouble (old computer with old OS with slow network (for instance when project is saved on shared drive over network)). In those situations, the possibility to disable auto-compile and launch manually compilation (CTRL + K) would be very usefull! Greenfoot is great but since we passed to the 3.1 version, auto-compile slows everything and makes the use of the editor a really bad experience. Thanks a lot for your precious work Laurent (a teacher using for years Greenfoot with his students)
