when i go on the greenfoot website and go on a senarios it says start applet not initalized and then the senario wont load????? please help my os is ubuntu

You need to install the Oracle JDK; the OpenJDK browser plugin doesn't seem to work with Greenfoot applets. See here for help on installing the Oracle JDK and browser plugin.
