Unfortunately, the Greenfoot developers are stuck on the same problem. It seems like Java is not prompting MacOS for the microphone permission and I haven't found a way to make it happen, even with varying the app permissions to say it will want to ask for the microphone. I don't understand why it doesn't work so I haven't been able to make progress. At the moment you'll have to record using an external application.

Hi @nccb! Thanks for following up and letting me know. We were able to workaround recording, but are stumped regarding microphone input. I hope you find success! Stickman is a great activity, and my students truly enjoy it.

Just to let you know we've now found a solution. I've just swapped out the installers for the new 3.9.0 release on the download page with a version that should correctly request microphone permissions on Mac when you use the Sound Recorder.
